A-level results are here and everyone is scrambling for a place at the University of their choice. One thing is for sure – anyone enrolling at Queen’s University Belfast is in for a real treat.

Queens PEC (Physical Education Centre) has recently invested heavily in its fitness facilities, boasting a state of the art cardio centre, top of the range resistance machines, a specialist Strength & Conditioning area complete with Olympic lifting platforms, and at the heart of their facility is the functional fitness room with an impressive Double Squat Station Functional Rig supplied by our partners at Exigo Sport.

All the gear and ‘no idea’ will certainly not be an issue for the staff at the Queens PEC because our Training Academy Manager, Mark Laws, flew in to Belfast to deliver a ‘Rig Workshop’ to the entire fitness team. Mark spent the day teaching them how to maximise the use of their new Rig, and how to incorporate it into their sessions.

The Rig at Queens PEC comprises of monkey bars, squat racks, pull up bars, suspension training, dip bars, step up platform and a 3 bar wing attachment.

Mark explained “we started off going through the basics for each attachment, but this is a very experienced fitness team so we soon worked our way up to some more advanced exercises. Towards the end we put together some mini workout sessions using multiple features of the Rig – these were really tough, but enjoyable, and most importantly they really showed off the versatility and functionality of the Rig”.

Health and Fitness Development Officer at Queens PEC, Conor McCallion said “It was a very informative workshop with an excellent amount of practical work. Mark clearly knew his stuff and showed us some great training ideas that we had never thought of. We learned a lot of things that we can incorporate into the members programmes straight away – he also encouraged us to come up with a few of our own ideas. The ‘French Contrast’ training concept he introduced was fantastic and made for a really enjoyable day. Myself, and the entire Queens PEC team, would definitely recommend this course to anyone who has a Rig, or who is looking to purchase a Rig”.
