Hot off the press is a feature in the latest issue of Running Free magazine testing one of our Alpha Strong Bags. Here's what they had to say...

ALPHA STRONG BAGS

While there is something wonderfully authentic about the natural fitness gleaned by hauling big bags of sand around, if you’re not in the building trade then it’s probably not something you’ve done recently. Alpha Strong Bags however can bring exactly that kind of authentic human movement to any runner’s training regime. They come in different weights and shapes to suit all abilities. Since they are less stable than kettlebells or medicine balls – as the sand tends to naturally shift a little from side to side – they demand more of the smaller stabiliser muscles and force you to use your core for balance rather than rely on those (probably already overused) muscles in your upper and lower body.

My favourite all-body sandbag exercise is a ‘fireman’s lift’: Use a ‘coach’ or ‘beast’ bag, squatting down with a flat back, grabbing the handles on the top of the bag and power upwards with your legs while tossing the bag onto one shoulder before flipping the bag back onto the floor and repeating the other side. Try three sets of eight each side with a minute’s rest inbetween to give your glutes, hamstrings and quads a treat that will only benefit your running!
